Well, this sweet little thing stole my heart. She reminded me so much of my not so little Chublet! While so many little ones stay balled up like they were in the womb, this little lady has already started staking her claim to her space in the world. She loved no position more than sprawled flat on her back, arms up, and legs out like a starfish! Look out world, here she comes and she won’t be a wallflower!

I fall in love with every newborn I photograph. There’s something about each one of them that is so unique, and so them; the tiny ones with the super delicate little features, the ones with the bold personalities, even at 6 days old, the ones who settle in and snooze throughout the whole session, and the ones who just. won’t. sleep… One of the things I loved about this special little girl was her delicious chubbiness and awesome rolls!

And one of my favourite parts of her session? You can check it out here! Oh the cuddles… (Yes, I look like a hot mess. Par for the course with newborns, I’m afraid! You can expect to see me in yoga pants and a t-shirt or a tank top for newborn sessions…)

This little one has a wonderful life to look forward to. Her parents are some of the loveliest people I know. Funny, warm, and absolutely delighted to have welcomed her into their life. I look forward to  getting to know her as she grows!

I’m currently booking newborn sessions in the New Year. I recommend booking about 2-4 months before your due date- it’ll help take the pressure off of all the last minute preparations we make before baby arrives. Head on up to the “Inquire” button at the top to drop me a line!

Until next time…

Sisterly Love- Ottawa Family PhotographerPINIMAGE

These girls! This family! I had such a great session with these guys. That sweet little thing with the gap-toothed grin is an absolute firecracker, who kept me on my toes the whole time, and her big sister is a whole lot of fun too. There’s silliness bubbling just under the surface in that one! Watching the two of them together is a delight.

One of the things that makes family sessions shine is when everyone can just relax and enjoy our time together. I know that during this session, Mum and Dad were concerned that the girls were being too crazy, weren’t listening, and were just being too silly to get good photos. As your family photographer it’s my job to make sure that we get great images for your gallery; if I’m letting the kids go, and be silly, and run around you can trust that there’s method to my madness. 😉 Some of my favourite photos from this session are the ones where the kids’ personalities really shine! Check out one favourite here. Yes, they’re being silly, and yes, the energy is high, but isn’t that what kids are all about? Believe me. You’ll love having beautiful photos of your family’s beautiful spirit.

Are you dying to have updated photos of your family that show you as you really are? Fun and full of life? Then get in touch! I’d love to hear from you. Just click “Inquire” at the top there, and say hello. I can’t wait to meet you!

Pic. 1. Extra Super Cialis is a medicine to increase potency and treat premature ejaculation.

This month a group of us were thinking about the necessary things in life. We all need food, and shelter, of course. Clothes to keep us safe from the elements, and supportive people in our lives to help us keep going when the going gets tough. I’m very grateful to have all of those things in my life! We’re blessed with the chance to strive beyond just maintaining the bare necessities, which has me thinking about the over-and-above things that we sometimes take for granted…

I started out as a photographer long before I had kids. I worked long, crazy hours, and completely burnt myself out. I barely picked up my camera for years! When E was tiny I took photos of him, but still not much more than snapshots really, on my little point and shoot digital camera. I barely picked up my “big girl (film) camera”! And then, horror of horrors, my computer hard drive died and I lost all of my digital photo files. Gone. All that I have left of my little guy’s early years are photos that I had emailed to people, or copies of a few prints that I had made for grandparents. Now of course I have multiple backups, and make sure that all my files are looked after, but it has left me playing catch up! I find that now I want to take pictures of our everyday, the little things we do as well as the more traditional portraits. That’s what lifestyle photography is all about- capturing the real you in your real surroundings. It is one of my necessities now. I want to be sure that my kids can look back on all the fun things we did, as well as the day to day things. This is our life. I want to record it!

I’ve also been thinking about education. Our daughter is set to start Junior Kindergarten in September, our son is in grade 6. He is lucky to have a spot in a really great programme through the public school system, that helps him thrive despite some of his struggles, so that he can work towards achieving his potential. There are many other families who would love to have their kid where mine is, so we can’t allow ourselves to take it for granted. So, homework it is. Lots of it, sometimes! It’s a necessary evil though, right?

At this point I hear “Mum? You’re really distracting…” So that’s my cue. I’m done taking photos for today…

Ihis little post is part of the Keepin’ it REAL blog circle, contributed to by a group of wonderful photographers from all over North America. Take a peek at what they’ve considered a Real Necessity this month by starting with Jody Mack Photography, Charleston & Mount Pleasant Lifestyle Newborn & Family Photographer.

And I’d love to hear what you feel is a Real Necessity for you and your family… tell me about it in the comments below!

Till next time…

Ottawa Area Children

Dear Chublet,

It’s been a while since you’ve had a letter all to yourself, so let’s fix that now. We spend a lot of time together, you and I, and even though I whisper “I love you” in your ear and gobble up your tummy and zrbtt that spot at the nape of your neck there’s still a lot that’s left unsaid…

We just got back from our first big adventure as a family of four when we went to England for two weeks. I’ll write a full post about that, for sure, but I want you to know how proud we were of you on the trip! You were really great on the flight on the way over, and you put up beautifully with all the train travel we did while there.

Travels by Train

You slept well, and you got along with your brother, and you really enjoyed yourself! Hooray! I know that in time your memories of the trip will leave you, replaced by new memories of new experiences, but with any luck the photographs of the trip will at least let you see and appreciate all the fun we had. Oh, and don’t expect photos of our flight home… that’s when you decided you’d had enough. I’m afraid you turned into THAT KID on the flight. Yup- squirming, pinching, shouting, seat kicking, messing with your brother… then howling at the top of your lungs! Oh man. I think the rest of the people on the plane must have wanted me to smother you! You finally fell asleep on me for an hour or so, and I was so worried that you’d wake up that I let my arm and my hip fall asleep! Whew! I’ve never been so happy to be home… Good thing we love you! 😉

Lately you’ve been fascinated by beauty routines. You watch me putting on makeup and want to do the same, and you even steal away to go rummaging through my makeup case! You really really really want to wear nail polish, and were delighted when we found some nail polish that I’d let you wear. It’s non-toxic, it peels off so I don’t need to use nail polish remover, and best of all? It has Hello Kitty on it!! But would you let me do your nails for you? Oh no… you had to do them yourself. I’ve scarcely seen you so determined!

This is so her. Top pulled down around her waist, hair everywhere, filthy hands and nails after digging in the dirt, but she

Finally, just before going away we had you get your first hair cut. I was pretty nervous about how you’d take to it, but I needn’t have worried at all. You loved it! Mind you, what kid wouldn’t? We went to Pretty Handsome, and let me tell you they have it all figured out. Really cool chairs to sit in, bubbles for you to blow, and an iPad for you to play on! Total luxury, kid-style!

And the best part? You loved your new haircut. Bliss!

Happy Haircut at Pretty Handsome

We’ve been having a lot of fun this summer, and a lot of new experiences, but also, alas, some bummer times too. You were so sick last week, and fell asleep just about anywhere. I have to admit, as awful as I feel for you when you’re sick, I do love the quiet times that are so rare around here. Especially when you fall asleep on the couch in some lovely light.

Sleepy Girl

I love you love you love you my girl, and always will.

Mum xoxo

As I said above, if you have a moment I invite you to have a click around our little circle. You can start with Sara of Sugar Lens Photography in Newmarket!

Dear E,

What a crazy spring we’ve had! With all the goings on for the end of the school year, the start of spring/summer sports leagues, museum sleepovers, your dad travelling, me travelling, changing weekends around, an AWESOME new haircut and your sister’s constant crazy toddler hijinks it’s impressive that we’re still holding it together. And now we’re looking at packing up the four of us to travel to England for two weeks! Can you believe it! You’ve never been overseas before, so I wonder if you’re ready for what’s coming… lol.

You spent the first eight years of your life as an only child, with no family in the city other than mum and dad. Nanny and Pappa were in Montreal, almost two hours away, your aunt and uncle were in Vancouver, on the other side of the country, and your dad’s family was out that way too. Now that Nanny and Pappa are only an hour away, and your aunt and uncle are back in Ottawa and have a son of their own, and you have a little sister I think you’re starting to understand a little more about family. The thing is though, that there are all sorts of people in England who are our family too! Some of them by blood, and some of them by choice. It’s lovely when someone is so wonderful that they get the honorary title Aunt or Uncle, isn’t it! We won’t have nearly as much time to see everyone as I’d like (there never really is enough time, is there?), but I hope you’ll start to see that we have threads connecting us to people who care about us on the other side of the ocean. It’s a very nice feeling to know that there are people out there who, although we don’t necessarily keep in touch as well as we should, and although we don’t see them very often, are family and will be thrilled to see us. Get ready for lots of hugs…

Outside of sessions for clients I’ve barely had my camera out these last couple of months, so the photographs of you (and your sister, never fear…) are few and far between. They’re mostly just snapshots, too. You’ve had a really great spring baseball season though, and your team made it to the finals of the playoffs (with you in their pitching lineup! Way to go!!), so I made sure to get at least a couple of shots of you playing. This is one of my favourites. The ball has left your bat and is still in the frame, and your eye is still watching where it’s going. And you look so intense!

Glebe Children

I also made sure to pull out the camera for what is arguably to coolest thing you’ve done so far this summer… Fly Day! The last chance to wear your Cub uniform was a blast. You got to fly an airplane! You were so excited, and I know you had a ton of fun. You talked about it for days! I must admit I was a little jealous, but I’m so glad you did it. You’re my flying ace.

3rd Year Cubs Fly Day

I love you lots and lots and lots my kiddo, and I always will.

Mum xoxo

If you have a minute, I’d love for you to leave a comment to say hello, and please to click over to Sara’s blog to read her letter to her son. She’s another Ontario photographer living in Newmarket. She’s lovely and very talented, so I recommend stopping by!
