Letters to our Sons #2

Ottawa Children

Dear E,

It’s 2014! As you told me recently, this is the year you’ll turn 11. It’s a funny year, this, as you’re growing up and getting older, but there’s still a lot of the younger you to be seen beneath the mop of long hair (still haven’t convinced you to cut it shorter, have I?). You’re playful, which our Chublet just loves, getting her to chase you in circles around the kitchen and living room (which I’m not so fond of…) or getting down on the ground and  building towers out of Duplo or racing Playmobil cars until the cows come home. J is still your number 1 fan, and looks up to you with big wide eyes.

You’ve been through some big changes this year, with your first year of summer league baseball and a week (far) away at baseball camp, a switch to a new school, and not to mention learning to manage having a toddler in your space; I have to tell you you’ve impressed me so much with how you’ve dealt with the new challenges!

Watching you navigate your move to a new school, leaving your friends behind and starting something new, unknown, and certainly more challenging, has made me so very proud of you. I don’t think you really knew what you were in for with the switch. You’ve had to pick yourself up from a few stumbles, but I love that now you don’t give up. Where you used to get so down on yourself and be convinced that you just couldn’t get something, now you see that yes, maybe you made a mistake, but you can correct it and keep going. I love seeing you grow in your self-confidence! And I’m so grateful to your teachers for helping you to see your potential.

You had so much fun working on that photo! My Love I have so much more I could say, but I’ll save it for another letter. For now just know that I love to you pieces, and I always look forward to your hugs even if they threaten to break me in half! It won’t be long before you really can pick me up off the floor, but if you don’t mind, could you pretend for a while longer that that’s not the case? You’re growing up so fast, and I’d like to hang on to the “little” you as long as I can.

I love you love you love you, for always,

Mum xoxo

You can find her letter here. And do join in on the conversation in the comments. I’d love to hear from you! Till next time…
